Denim is here to stay, though its form is always changing. While denim jeans seem to have become a lasting fixture in fashion, other products in this fabric are really hot right now. The past year or two has seen the return of the denim jacket and vest, as well as the emergence of denim button-downs. If you’re ever hard-pressed for style ideas, check out magazines and catalogs. Take note of how the models display items, what they wear it with and typically what style they are presented in. Though the fabric is extremely adaptable, there is still a method to all the madness. Adding fashion accessories to just a plain old pair of jeans can really enhance your look. A clutch purse or a hobo style handbag can do wonders to a simple jeans kind of an outfit.
Even though it may seem like it goes with everything, take notice of the shade and tone of your jeans and choose which other colors will work best. While it depends on the look you’re trying to achieve, make sure the tone is complementary or in the same family. This goes for anything you’re wearing, but it’s always important to be cautious. Also, be wary of wearing denim-on-denim, though it isn’t entirely out of the question. If you’re matching a top and jean, then go for stark difference in tone, such as a light, washed-out top and dark, luscious jean or the other way around. This look also works best, no matter the tone, with a bold belt to break up the pattern and add some dimension. Just as if you were mixing and matching patterns, you have to be aware of what works and what clashes, and be able to know when too much is too much.
But overall, this fabric should be used sparingly. Like any pattern or texture, it works best when you choose one piece and go with it. If you want it to be the center of attention, then accentuate it with toned-down pieces in neutrals and a few brighter accessories that draw attention to the area of the item. If you’re wearing a jean, then a belt will help draw the eye down to the pant. A bold shoe will work just as well. If you’re wearing a vest or a top, opt for a statement necklace or bold color tube scarf that will draw the eye to the upper part of the body or torso. A bold statement piece does not necessarily take away from the effect of other accessories, but can help direct the focus of the outfit and make other pieces stand out. Use them sparingly and wisely depending on your desired style. Chicastic has a lot of great accessories that can be paired with a pair of jeans.
