You don’t have to buy a new dress for absolutely every occasion. Here are some simple ways to transform your look so you can get away with wearing the same dress more than once!
Some occasions may call for specific wear, or perhaps we find ourselves invited to an occasion we have never attended before so we need to go out and purchase the appropriate outfit to suit it. For example, say you’ve never been invited to a wedding before; what do you do? You go out and buy a dress of course! But what happens when you are invited to another wedding? And another? It would be a little ridiculous to purchase a brand new dress for each occasion without any good reason to, especially when our other dresses still fit well, are still in fashion and suit the season. The same can go for other formal events, or it can even apply to interview outfits. There are ways you can transform a single dress into multiple looks and to suit multiple occasions.
The easiest dress to accomplish this with is the ever popular little black dress, but it is still doable with others. The first and easiest thing to do is swap out your accessories. Sure, you can recycle the same exact look for another event but what would be the fun in that? Especially if you’re attending several weddings within a year, you won’t want to look exactly the same for each one of them would you?
Bold statement pieces can go a long way when it comes to transforming looks. A statement necklace can draw attention to the necklace itself and away from the dress, or it can accentuate the dress in a different way. Using either piece is helpful. Wear a bold, off-set piece to one event and a complementary piece to another. They will both produce unique looks that are not the same. Similarly, you can swap out other items that stand out or can accentuate the dress in question. Wear nude heels one time and bold neon yellow pointed toe flats the next. Use color to accentuate or complement your look and coordinate your accessories to match, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, belts, handbags, scarves and purses. You can even change the look of a dress by adding a vest or jacket, especially in the cooler months. Even your makeup routine can help change your look entirely. Use your accessories, the occasion and the time of year to dictate what your makeup will look like, use different shades of lipstick and other items to create different ensembles. Use a natural palette one day and use a bold lip color and eyeliner the next, or do a bit of mixing and matching.
Some occasions have themes that can help out. If you’re going to a wedding, this may be easier to accomplish, but professional and other events can call for more conservative and timeless pieces. Reserve these items for more serious events and be sure to use your bold and fun accessories to brighten and liven up your look for other celebrations.
