Leggings have been in style for a few years now, but they’ve mostly been solid colored. This allowed for easy pairing of patterned tops with neutral or complimentary colored bottoms. Now the latest trend is to wear leggings with patterns, which means tops need to be more carefully selected. Here are a few tips on how to easily incorporate patterned leggings into your look.

First off, a key thing to keep in mind is that leggings should be thought of like tights. You wouldn’t wear tights without your top or dress covering your front and butt, and the same applies to leggings.

As far as the pattern is concerned, the easiest way to work with it is to wear a solid colored top. If you’re wearing a black and white print, like zebra leggings, choose a colored shirt, but not one that’s super loud like neon green. Teal, purple, or dark green would look nice for example. For a more colorful pattern, like floral print leggings, pick one color from your print to wear, or go with a neutral color like beige, black, or white.
