Earlier this week Lady Gaga gave an amazing performance of a medley of songs from The Sound of Music. We thought, what better movie to feature for this throwback Thursday?

Maria, played by Julie Andrews, was a spirited woman with a wonderful voice. She also had a knack for making clothes out of curtains. If given a proper budget, what would Maria wear in today’s society? Well we think her style could work today with a few adjustments.

Dresses with a tight bodice and long loose shirt underneath were her staple. To bring it up to date she could either wear it with no shirt underneath or wear a more form fitting shirt underneath. As far as her hemline, it should be raised up a little, perhaps knee length. Styling the look with flats or a pair of flat boots would look cute and be practical. She could give her hair a little pizazz with a crown braid.

We’d like to see a little more color in her outfits or at least her accessories. Based on all the hills she climbs and children she chases after, a crossbody purse seems like a necessity. It could also be her pop of color if she’d like to keep her clothes neutral.
