There were many stunning dresses at the Cannes Film Festival this year, and we would expect no less. From Lupita Nyong’o’s green draped Gucci dress to Chanel Iman in a red Donna Karan Atelier gown, the looks were amazing. We chose our three favorites to be inspired by.
Doutzen Kroes wore a knockout dress by Atelier Versace. The white cutout across the upper body, along with the leg slit, was sexy and yet not revealing. The unique design and bold white color were attention grabbers and caused the dress to need minimal accessories. A simple sleek heel, thin bracelet and ring did the trick. If you have an eye catching outfit, do the same and go light on the accessories.
Naomi Watts wore a romantic silver Elie Saab gown. You’d think between the low cut front, beading, exposed back and long feathery skirt that there would have been too much going on. However, this dress was just the right mix of all those elements. Watts went with simple earrings and a large necklace. Normally we’d say keep the accessories to a minimum, like with Kroes’ dress, but this necklace suited the dress’ sparkly top half. Feathers can be a little difficult to pull off at evening events that don’t include paparazzi, but the beading can be easily incorporated into your own look. Try beaded heels, clutches, or jewelry for easy outfit additions.
Julianne Moore wore a custom velvet Givenchy Couture dress. What we loved most about it was the mix of fabrics. There was the long smooth velvet aspect to the gown and then the strong structured bodice underneath. The textures were a surprising combination and yet worked perfectly together. Moore accessorized her dress with larger earrings and cocktail rings.
