“Roads..Where We’re Going We Don’t Need Roads”

Anyone with a healthy love of movies, and/or all things 80’s knows that this coming Wednesday is an important day in cinematic history “30 years” in the making! On Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 4:29 Marty Mcfly arrives “in the future!!” The beloved “Back to the Future” trilogy first thrilled audiences with the initial film of the franchise in 1985, and introduced us to Marty McFly, who travels back to 1955 in a Time Machine made out of a DeLorean created by his friend, Doctor Emmett “Doc” Brown.  In the second film, released in 1989, but also partially set in 1985, Marty, Doc Brown, Jennifer and Einstein travel 30 years into the future to October 21 2015 to thwart an event that would unravel the future of the McFly family. This film gave us a hilarious view of what folks in the 80’s thought “the future”  would look like. Well the future is officially now! Let Chicastic help you find the perfect outfit to wear to a screening of “Jaws 19” or shopping for a new Hover Board!

It’s almost impossible to pull off the classic Marty’s look without looking exceedingly masculine, which is totally cool if you’re going for that style, but not if you want to keep it softer and more playful. To make your own fun version of the famous Mcfly look, start with our corset in wine red. Replace the denim jacket with this navy blue cardigan.Add a fitted plaid shirt and the signature puffy “life preserver” vest.  For a cute nod to the film, add this bolt of lightning ring, all 1.21 gigawatts of it! Add a pair of light denim skinny jeans and a simple pair of white Nike’s you’re ready to “make like a tree and get out of here.”

Jennifer is a unwitting participant in her trip to 2015, and finds out some shocking news about her possible future…. like getting married in the “Chapel O’ Love” and in-laws that tote re-hydrated pizza. To get her ’85 look, start with our floral print leggings. Next, add a long sleeve white shirt under our royal blue sleeveless cardigan. Put on some chunky socks and pair of plain white or grey sneakers and you’re ready for a day in Hill Valley!

Are you more of a fan of what everyone in 2015 is supposed to be wearing?  This involves a mix and match of different patterns and materials. One way to recreate this look is to start with a pair of our abstract pattern leggings along with our red and black patent leather bustier. Next, add this multi-color triangle statement necklace. It adds hard lines seen in the film’s fashion, and the colors really make it work. Add a pair of shoes that’ll really pop, like these bright pumps. Then use the makeup brush kit to give yourself a futuristic makeover.

Let Chicastic get you out the door at 88 MPH!

Accessories with Floral Prints

There are few seasonally appropriate patterns like the floral print. This design has made a huge comeback in recent years so why not take advantage and add some blooming foliage to your spring and summer ensembles.

Floral prints are perfect for the spring and summer time. They come in a variety of color palettes, from neutral to neon, to bold, and earth tones, you name it. The nature of these patterns is easily reflected the blooming foliage you can readily see this time of year so why not use it to inspire some of your outfits? Add some life and dimension to your look by adding one of these fashion accessories or statement fashion pieces.

Accent or statement pieces can work much like accessories. Leggings, printed skinny jeans and the like can be mixed and matched in any number of ways to create various outfits. These are especially good for making your basics look more dynamic and thoughtful. Plus pairing solid tops or tees with these items adds just the right amount of balance to your outfit. You can also use clothing items like sweaters or cardigans in the way you would use an accessory. Add some depth and color to an outfit of solid colors and patterns with a floral cardigan or shrug. Use some of the colors used in the print or wear it over neutrals and basics to maximize your look.

Smaller fashion accessories are also great for flaunting your springtime florals and floral prints. Canvas bags are especially popular, whether they come in the form of a trendy backpack, hobo bag, or crossbody. If you are looking for something a little more classy then a small clutch will do the trick as well. This sort of handbag can be worn to both casual and more formal events easily. Scarves are another great option and can be added to most any outfit. Not only that but they serve a practical purpose, too! They go wonderfully under any light jacket, fitted blazer, or sweater.

You can also opt for jewelry and other statement pieces. Large bib necklaces can feature floral themes and designs, whether in metalwork or in inset fabric with lace and other materials. Large chunky bangles can feature this design as well and can be easily added to ensembles. But if you’re looking for a more subtle way to add this print to your look, you can look beyond jewelry to other small fashion accessories like skinny belts or shoes. These can help bring balance to an outfit, whether you use the design elsewhere or simply wish to tie together an ensemble of different colors and solid pieces.

Casual Summer Fashion Accessories

Casual accessories are invaluable in any wardrobe. Here are some to keep in mind as summer rolls around.

With each season comes its own set of trends, styles and accessories and summer is no exception. This season is all about the heat and trying to beat it so light accessories are your best bet when it comes to accenting your summer season outfits and ensembles. Lighter colors, fabrics and materials work best this time of year so it is in your power to use them to your advantage.

There are certain colors that work best in summer. Bright shades, whether they are neons or pastels, primary colors or other bold tones, work best this time of year. They accent the heat well and mirror nature also. Everything is full and in bloom so why not use your environment to inspire your outfits? Lighter neutrals are also best as opposed to navy blues and blacks. While they are appropriate all year round, these lighter colors are more common and complement the season better as well. White, beige, and khaki are great to use, even taupe, cream and light heather grey are good as well.

Light patterns are also totally in. Think earth toned floral prints, or even neon floral prints, and festive paisleys or geometric patterns. These prints are not just available in clothing, but are totally useful to have in your arsenal of accessories, too. Shoes, light weight scarves, vests, light jackets or sweaters, printed bangles or bib necklaces, handbags from hobos to backpacks or totes to clutches, you can mix and match any of these seasonally appropriate patterns. Create outfits that use some of the colors featured in your accessory of choice to help tie an outfit or look together. Alternatively, you can use these items to brighten up and add some oomph to more basic outfits.

Big floppy straw sun hats, straw fedoras and panama hats are in this season. Not only do these pieces add character to any summer look, but they add a bit of a beachy, resort feel to any outfit as well as keep the sun out of your eyes and protect your scalp from sunburn. Whether you choose just one hat, or have several in your wardrobe, these can be easily mixed and matched with outfits. A basic t-shirt and shorts, a sundress, denim cut offs and a light flannel shirt, swimsuits and coverups all go with hats. Choose one with a bold pattern or design and another with a neutral or basic design in order to have one for any occasion.

Spring Handbags

With Spring comes a wealth of opportunity. Take advantage of the season by updating your wardrobe and your accessories.

Spring months bring a brightness not just to the weather outside but to our wardrobes as well. The dreary nature of winter is on its way out so the brighter, more colorful world can emerge again. The same goes for fashion. Often winter fashion and accessories consist of metallics, neutrals, jewel-tones and heavy materials. While all of this is appropriate for the weather it’s worn in, it does not match the demeanor that is associated with the spring. Try and jump into spring with some seasonally appropriate handbags.

Color is a major thing you can play with when it comes to bags. While neutrals are perfectly appropriate all year round, pastels and bold, bright colors come out to play once the weather gets warmer. Blacks and grays are still appropriate, but lighter neutrals tend to take the accessory stage come spring and summer. Light beiges, creams and stark whites take over and make way for brighter wardrobe options. If you want to add some color, than by all means choose a bag in a pastel, either blue, green, pink, yellow, whatever suits your liking. Pastels are still understated but have just as much capacity to add color and flare to an ensemble. The pantone color of 2014 is radiant orchid, a light yet bold purple with violet undertones. This makes for a great handbag, and is equally a great way to incorporate a trendy new color to your wardrobe.

Spring also brings with it a new array of bag styles and materials to play around with and mix and match. Wicker or basket weave becomes much more popular as the weather gets warmer, evoking that popular tropical or beach feel. Lighter toned canvas bags, canvas backpacks or cross bodies are also more commonplace, especially those that boast a perfectly springy floral print. Larger bags also become more appropriate once the weather doesn’t bog us down with any number of coats and scarves. Large, over-sized totes are more suited to the spring time and warmer months when we are not burdened with extra layers, and can even carry a light sweater or a scarf if the necessity arises, allowing you to bring any number of other necessities along with you on a day about town.

Make use of these lighter, brighter colors and patterns, as well as more lightweight materials. Have fun and use these spring bag ideas to brighten up your wardrobe.

Accessories From Small Town to Big City Chic

Different looks call for different accessories. Go one way or the other, but always feel free to mix and match.

The quintessential American small town and big city seem like polar opposites, right? While they do differ in ideology and lifestyle, not everything is completely different. Each are known for their overall style and fashion presence, but it never hurt anyone to mix and match, whether you live on a farm, in a major city, or somewhere in between. Each location has a style all their own and you don’t have to choose just one!

Small town fashion is very much down to earth and relaxed. Much like the lifestyle found outside of the bustling city, small town or country fashion usually tends to reflect this lifestyle. Country or bohemian styles can evoke that earthy, laid back feel. Floral prints and paisleys are perfect for this look. Floral prints, whether they are roses, daisies or ivy prints reflect the greenery and nature found in abundance outside of the city. The foliage and wildlife are seen very much in their patterns, whether they happen to be scarves, canvas handbags, vests, or cardigans, these prints are a great addition to any wardrobe. In that same vein, soft, natural colors are also great if you’re going for that country or small town look, especially when paired with distressed or faded denim and leather boots or booties. Soft or light colors, like whites, creams and pastels of any shade are also part of the small town look and work well with earthy tones including greens, browns and deep blues.

City chic is a little more sleek and simple. While patterns and prints work really well with small town, the one major city chic pattern is animal print. Otherwise, the city look uses more sleek textures such as patent leather, shimmery metallics or bold solid colors with matte finishes. This look almost mirrors the buildings of the big city, sleek glass structures with powerful silhouettes. Animal print clutches paired with chunky chains bracelets or necklaces or bold statement pieces go with this look as well. Colors tend to be in basic neutral, such as black or white, and use bold jewel-tones. Clutch purses in patent leather or matte leather go with everything and black is a major staple color, whether you’re choosing a bag, shoe or piece of jewelry.

As with everything, especially with accessories, mixing and matching is always encouraged. Even though accessories may be associated with certain looks, pairing two different genres together is never a bad thing as long as you color coordinate by matching or offsetting.

Spice It Up With A Corset

Corsets are a great romantic vintage piece of clothing, whether you’re going for a more authentic look or for a more modern twist. No matter the style, they are always romantic, whether cute and flirty or seductive and suave. Either way, these accessories can spice up any outfit, no matter what your intentions are.

Even though Valentine’s Day has passed, it doesn’t mean it’s the end of flirty fashion. Vintage style always carries an air of nostalgic romance, and corsets have a specific romance that no other item can carry. Treading the territory between completely authentic and modern reinterpretation, this piece can be worn in a variety of ways to spice up your wardrobe.

One of the simplest ways to wear this piece is with jeans. If you’re looking to make a really flirtatious statement, this is it. It can be worn alone with bare shoulders for a bold and feisty effect. You can also wear them under a variety of tops which each redefine the corset entirely. When underneath a motorcycle jacket, you can emit the tough vibe of a rocker chick. If worn under a blazer you can look put together and even professional while still retaining the pieces inherent feminine qualities.

They can also be worn over other pieces, of course. A vintage look may mean wearing a corset underneath a dress of the right style, as the piece was originally intended to be used. For a more modern look, you can wear the corset over a simple fitted dress as more of a featured accessory, adding depth and dimension. In a similar vein, they can also be worn to dress up plain fitted tees as well, whether long sleeved or short sleeved.

The colors and patterns also determine the overall style of a corset. A dark, subtle pattern is more seductive, and when worn underneath jackets or blazers can have a more muted and modern effect. A floral print corset adds an air of fun flirtiness with a flare of that original vintage charm. There’s a corset out there for everyone. The sheer popularity of these novelty pieces can look modern or as if they were plucked right out of the past. No matter what style you choose, it’s easy to make this piece totally your own and add that flirty flare to your wardrobe. And don’t forget just how versatile corsets are, they always be worn alone.
