How To Find YOUR Goth Style

Find Your.jpg

Goth style is a popular way to express yourself, but do you know what Goth is? A goth person is someone who finds beauty in mystery and darkness. There is a romance to dark things that goths find enjoyable. The goth image evolved from punk, victorian and industrial styles. The myth is that goths always wear black, but this is not true. While the colors in a goth’s closet may lean towards darker shades, the style called Pastel Goth adds traditional goth elements in lighter hues. Here are a few ways to incorporate traditional goth style into your wardrobe.

BLACK
While black isn’t the only color in a goth’s closet, it is the most recognizable trait of the goth scene. Black shoes, corsets, handbags and scarves are a great way to implement this into your wardrobe.

METALS
Heavy metal jewelry is also a great way to incorporate Goth style. Leather cuffs with spikes, or even chest plate necklaces. Dramatic pieces are your best bet, just stay within the silver or pewter color scheme. Dark stones like onyx, emeralds and rubies also do well with this style.

CORSETS
Considered more “Victoriana,” corsets are extremely fashionable in the goth scene, especially lace corsets or satin corsets with ruffles. Anyone can pull this look off because corsets accentuate any body type. Pair your corset with a leather mini or even a tulle skirt! Dark skinny jeans can also work for a more casual look.

MAKEUP
Dark makeup! But don’t overdo it! Don’t paint your face white and wear black lipstick or you’ll end up looking like a mime or an 80’s rock band groupie (you know which band!). Deepen the shade of lipstick you usually wear and up your eyeliner a bit. Wear eyeshadow darker than you usually would and highlight your cheekbones.

HAIR
If you have dark hair naturally, it won’t be too harsh for you to go a shade or two darker. However, if you are blonde you may look a bit washed out if you dye your hair too dark. An option is to give yourself lowlights or even dark streaks. Colors like dark red or deep purple can also work!

PASTEL
If you find the traditional goth style is too dark, try pastel goth. It’s a beautiful way to incorporate gothic elements but in a lighter way. Instead of a dark corset, try a baby blue or even light pink one over a long black skirt, fishnets and boots. The reverse can also work. Pale colored skinny jeans can be paired with a dark corset and dark makeup.
Goth is an amazing style and culture. It allows you to express your dark side, but can still be feminine.

Blue is a nice pleasing color to incorporate into your wardrobe.  It can vary from a pastel baby blue, to teal, to royal blue, to navy.  There’s a shade for everyone.

Keep the airy quality of a light blue dress by pairing it with white or silver accessories.  Or toughen up the look with a contrasting black purse and shoes.  Try a darker shade of blue for your outfit and match your accessories or try a red purse for a wow factor.

Solid and Striped Scarves

Scarves are an indispensable accessory no matter what your style. Make sure you choose yours wisely!

Scarves are an indispensable part of anyone’s wardrobe. They are perfect for every season, they come in a variety of colors, prints, patterns, materials and finishes, and can be worn in so many ways that it could take you months to wear a different style every day. Spring is a great season for scarves. The transitional weather calls for versatile and practical clothing and accessories, and scarves do just that. They can provide warmth from cool breezes just as well as add some depth to an outfit. It’s useful for anyone to have at least a handful of these fashion accessories and to vary their pieces. Having some solids and some stripes can go a long way.

When it comes to solid colors, it’s always nice to have a variety. Try to have at least one neutral color that you can wear with absolutely everything. This will come in handy when you’re on the run, don’t have time to think about your outfit in too much detail, or even if a friend needs to borrow an accessory. You can choose the ever popular black, or any other neutral if you wear it often enough. You’ll also want to add some color in there as well. You can choose from pale to bold or jewel-toned to pastel, it’s all up to you. Choose one of each or go with one color palette and get a scarf in every color of that family. It’s up to you. Again, you might want to opt for colors that you wear often or alternatively ones that contrast with your clothing if you want to make more of a statement.

Stripes are basically the neutral of patterns. They are simple and sleek and can be matched with just about anything, except for maybe more stripes. These can be worn with other patterns as well, such as paisley, floral, geometric, you name it. Also, scarves with stripes can add some depth and dimension to an outfit while still essentially being a neutral. While you can have stripes in different colors, the most popular colors featured are often black and white, or navy and white, black and cream, or grey and white etc. These neutral accessories can do a lot for an outfit without using too much color that might clash with whatever you’re wearing.

Feel free to mix and match, experiment, and have fun. Scarves are one of the most versatile and useful accessories out there, so take as much advantage of them as you can!

Pastels for Spring

What says “spring” more than pastels? Here are some tips to keep in mind when adding these colors to your ensemble.

Spring is the perfect time to brighten up your wardrobe. Now that the dreary weather of winter is gone, you can break out of those dark colors and step into the light. Autumn and winter are best for rich jewel tones and deep shades, but spring beckons the sun to come back out and the weather starts to tempt us to come outside just as everything is blooming. Incorporating pastels into your wardrobe will really reflect the season, and brighter ones have actually been proven to improve your mood. Match your wardrobe with the feeling of spring by working these light shades to your look.

Pastels are a bit like statement colors, they should be used sparingly and with purpose. First, decide whether you want to wear it as an accent piece or as more of a focal point of your outfit. If you’re using it minimally, a statement clutch purse is a great way to incorporate it into your seasonal wardrobe. This way you can add it to any outfit on the go and it can act as the perfect spring accent. If you’re looking to wear it as a main focal point, then be careful of pairing it with other colors. Matching colors or ones that belong to the same family can work, but be sure to use neutrals to break up your look and create balance. Dark and light neutrals both work with pastels, but be wary of using too many other light colors together. Using too many like colors can create a washed out look, so darker or medium toned neutrals will help break up your look and let your pastels stand out as much as possible.

Don’t underestimate pastel jewelry either. Accessories like statement necklaces and enamel laquered jewelry can lighten your look no matter what you’re wearing. With smaller accent pieces, you can mix and match colors more easily since the effect is much more subtle. Add it to light or dark outfits, casual or dressy. Either way, you will look fresh and more than ready to greet the spring weather. Do be careful mixing too many pastels together, especially between jewelry, accessories and clothing items. Mixing pastels with neutrals and jewel or earth tones will help balance out your look and make your pastels stand out even more depending on your desired look. Balance is key and will help your desired statement pieces stand out all the more.

April Fashion

April can be a temperamental month but that doesn’t mean you can’t look fabulous. Be sure you’re ready for anything and still look chic.

April weather can be a bit unpredictable. Even though the temperatures are finally warming up, we can often be bogged with sporadic rain showers and the temps can still vary from the 40’s to the 60’s and even 70’s. The trick to April fashion is being prepared for any weather and still looking great.

The weather this time of year can call on practically any outfit you have ready in your closet. One day can have you feeling like it’s winter again and another can force you to bust out your summer clothes. The best thing to do to counter this is to layer. Layering will ensure that you are prepared for any weather as well as any random or unexpected weather changes. The best items to use are light clothing, like a loose cardigan, that when combined can create warm, cozy combinations that aren’t too warm, and can be easily removed if you need to cool off and breathe a little. The fun thing about layering is that you are basically wearing several outfits in one, which can definitely come in handy if something comes up or if the weather spoils an item or two with a random rain shower.

While it can rain any time of the year, the spring and late fall are when it’s at its worst so it’s best to keep ready. Wear shoes that are naturally water resistant or be sure to carry a spare in your bag if you’re unsure of the weather. Shoes with fabric made of suede or fragile canvas materials can easily become ruined when wet so it may be best to keep the suede for autumn and winter and hold onto some canvas shoes until summer, unless they are the kind that can be easily washed. Leather, patent leather or even pleather are all great materials to use in rainy weather and can be made extra resistant with a water sealant spray. If you still feel like rocking your favorite shoes that happen to be more sensitive to moisture, then be sure to be one of those people who carries an extra pair or shoe covers on hand.

Regardless of playing it safe, feel free to break out those bright pastel colors to welcome the spring. Regardless of what the forecast is, these colors will brighten your mood and pump you up for the warmer temps to come. Let your outfit match the excitement of the season by incorporating lighter shades and tones into your look.

Springs Prettiest Polishes and Purses

Embrace the spring with new colored polishes and purses. Add that subtle accent to maximize the season’s fresh new looks.

It’s time to break out of the dreary clutches of winter and walk into spring with open arms- adorned with the appropriate seasonal polishes and purses, of course. Now that your hands are free from the clutches of their gloves and your arms are free of bulky layers to weigh them down, it’s time to show them both off again. While winter is not completely monochrome and it is perfect for shimmery metallics and jewel-tones, spring is about livening things up and adding some fresh new color.

The 2014 pantone color of the year, radiant orchid, is a great place to start. Adding this bright and lively shade to your nails can do wonders to an ensemble. It will instantly brighten up any look and will add a splash of color. It also works wonderfully as a clutch. An accessory like this is subtle but eye catching, and can be manipulated easily. Clutches may be small but they can easily be added in or out of an outfit depending on your mood, but always make for an easy addition. Even colors that are not quite orchid, but are close, such as a traditional rich purple, will work wonderfully. Whether you wear it on your nails, in your hand, or both, this color adds a bit of springtime freshness to any outfit.

Emerald greens are perhaps the most traditional and expected colors to emerge during this season. After all, the snow finally melts to reveal the soon-to-be-green grasses and the trees reclaim their leaves. This color takes center stage and is the focus of rejuvenation come springtime. Whether you go for deeper tones or more pastel ones, green is a safe and appropriate color for the season and goes wonderfully with other neutrals and even other pastels.

But not everything has to be bright and colorful to look fresh. Grey is a fabulous neutral for the season, it isn’t as dark and overwhelming as black and acts as a middle ground between that and brighter whites. Just like any other neutral, wearing grey really provides a great canvas for showcasing other colors. Especially when you plan on mixing and matching nails and a handbag. Grey nails are great because they match any outfit and can accent any handbag, but grey clutches and purses really allow freshly painted nails in reds, greens, purples or pastels to really shine.

Both of these handheld fashion options are great ways to step into spring. They may seem small and subtle but they can go a long way and still make a statement.

Spring Essentials

Revamp your winter wardrobe with some spring essentials. With these pieces, you’ll be ready to handle whatever weather the spring brings.

Spring is finally here! While it may not yet feel like it has fully arrived, much of the spring season will be defined by temperamental weather that can’t seem to make up its mind. Some days will feel like hints of summer and others may feel like a backtrack through winter, so be sure to stock up on some spring essentials to make sure you are ready for absolutely anything!

Scarves are absolutely essential to spring. They come in handy in a pinch, are lightweight, add texture to outfits, and they can be worn in more ways than you can wear every day in a week (or even a month if you’re feeling ambitious). These handy accessories come in so many colors, prints, fabrics and styles that it is always worth it to have at least a few in varying looks. That way, you’ll always have a scarf for any occasion. Need a scarf for work? A silk scarf looks chic and still does the job. Need one for a casual day out? A pastel chiffon scarf can be worn with practically any outfit. What about one that adds that oomph to a basic outfit? How about one with a floral, paisley or animal print? These accessories are so versatile and practical, it’s hard to go through any season without one.

Pastels. What sorts of pastels? Any kind! Spring is also associated with spring cleaning, so if you have any old accessories or pieces of clothing you no longer wear or have fallen out of style that need replacing, then replace them with a new pastel piece. Pinks, yellows, soft greens and blues, purples are all the rage this season. The pantone color of the year is radiant orchid, so perhaps replace your old purse with a new patent leather one sporting this shade. Bold statement necklaces with opaque, pastel colored insets are also popular. If you’re not into jewelry, then clutch purses and scarves (of course) are another suitable option.

Cardigans are also an invaluable essential for the season. Since the weather is rather unpredictable, a cardigan is perfect for layering so that you’re reading for anything. Layering is great for days that may start off and end up chilly but are warm during the day. These handy pieces can be taken on or off easily or worn with heavier or lighter clothing to suit the temperature. With all of these in mind, you’ll be ready to shed your winter wardrobe and step into spring.

Pantone Color of the Year

New years bring new trends. Incorporate this new color into your wardrobe repertoire and see how it inspires new looks.

Every year and every season sees to new trends and new styles. The runway introduces us to new ensembles, looks, and introduces us to new ways to wear things. Usually, a color palette emerges with each season, a new set of colors that will define the future fashion trends to come in the following months. The pantone color of 2014 has already been decided: Radiant Orchid. This shade is perfect for spring, which is now officially here, and can easily transition into summer and fall as well.

This color is bold yet soft and pastel at the same time. Purple has always demanded attention and has a certain lingering air of regalia from the times of Romans when they were worn by people of importance and later worn primarily by European monarchs. This color still demands the same admiration today, and this particular shade is both bold as well as demure. The softness of it is perfect for spring. Pastels are great once the weather gets warmer, imitating the emerging flowers in bloom as the earth slowly grows greener. Pastels work great as undertones as well as bold accent colors depending on what other colors they are worn with. They can be used to undertone patterns and compliment like colors, but they can also stand out when worn with paler colors or with neutrals. They add a splash of oomph while remaining soft and supple, and this shade of radiant orchid does just that. It is light while still bringing with it the power of purple. It can stand out more or less depending on what it is paired with, but will always make a statement.

You can try to gather outfit inspiration from this radiant orchid to make your 2014 outfits look equally radiant. One great way to incorporate a trend into your wardrobe is to gather a few pieces that can be mixed and matched. One safe way is to get t-shirts or camisoles in the color to use when layering, that way it can be used as either an accent or a main staple depending on how you wear it. Accessories also work well. Try to snag a light chiffon scarf or a new handbag in this shade to sport now that spring is here. You can also go for the statement route, which may mean finding a statement necklace or perhaps even a versatile blazer in radiant orchid in order to bring it into your other, already existing outfits while still allowing it to stand out and be noticed.

The best thing to do with anything new fashion-wise is to experiment and to mix and match. See what pieces work for you by trying them on in the store and seeing how they mesh with pieces you already own. If you ever feel unsure but are still eager to try something new, always start small and see how you feel. Who knows, you may be influenced to run back out to the store and grab more items in that color!

Spring Handbags

With Spring comes a wealth of opportunity. Take advantage of the season by updating your wardrobe and your accessories.

Spring months bring a brightness not just to the weather outside but to our wardrobes as well. The dreary nature of winter is on its way out so the brighter, more colorful world can emerge again. The same goes for fashion. Often winter fashion and accessories consist of metallics, neutrals, jewel-tones and heavy materials. While all of this is appropriate for the weather it’s worn in, it does not match the demeanor that is associated with the spring. Try and jump into spring with some seasonally appropriate handbags.

Color is a major thing you can play with when it comes to bags. While neutrals are perfectly appropriate all year round, pastels and bold, bright colors come out to play once the weather gets warmer. Blacks and grays are still appropriate, but lighter neutrals tend to take the accessory stage come spring and summer. Light beiges, creams and stark whites take over and make way for brighter wardrobe options. If you want to add some color, than by all means choose a bag in a pastel, either blue, green, pink, yellow, whatever suits your liking. Pastels are still understated but have just as much capacity to add color and flare to an ensemble. The pantone color of 2014 is radiant orchid, a light yet bold purple with violet undertones. This makes for a great handbag, and is equally a great way to incorporate a trendy new color to your wardrobe.

Spring also brings with it a new array of bag styles and materials to play around with and mix and match. Wicker or basket weave becomes much more popular as the weather gets warmer, evoking that popular tropical or beach feel. Lighter toned canvas bags, canvas backpacks or cross bodies are also more commonplace, especially those that boast a perfectly springy floral print. Larger bags also become more appropriate once the weather doesn’t bog us down with any number of coats and scarves. Large, over-sized totes are more suited to the spring time and warmer months when we are not burdened with extra layers, and can even carry a light sweater or a scarf if the necessity arises, allowing you to bring any number of other necessities along with you on a day about town.

Make use of these lighter, brighter colors and patterns, as well as more lightweight materials. Have fun and use these spring bag ideas to brighten up your wardrobe.
