Back to School!
It’s that time of year where stores stop selling pool noodles and large displays filled with notebooks and #2 pencils take their place That’s right, it’s Back to School time! Haven’t figured out what you’re going to wear? Don’t worry, Chicastic has everything you need to kick-off the semester in style!

Neon, which had its heyday in the 80’s is making a comeback but in a more sophisticated way. Clarissa Darling on Clarissa Explains It All had some great early nineties fashion. She loved layers, loud prints, loud colors, and black boots. What would she wear today if we bumped into her?
She might be wearing a polka dot chiffon scarf in neon yellow to get the layers she loves, a bright color, and a pattern too. We’re sure she’d also still be mixing patterns, but to bring it up to date, they’d be in the same color family. She might bring out the color of the polka dot and pair it with a striped shirt in the same color family.
Another style she enjoyed was bright colored socks with black shoes. Today she could incorporate bright tights into her look and rock some black ankle booties. She might even have updated her loose black leather jacket to a cropped bomber jacket.
Clarissa loved her statement pieces so jewelry and clutches would be a great way for her to still express herself. A statement necklace like this vintage multi layer collar necklace would be a unique piece. For purses she’d let her imagination run wild. Anything from knuckle duster clutches to give her a tough feel, a glass bugle bead hard box clutch for a unique pattern, to a bright chevron straw and matching leather envelope clutch for her love of color.

Accessories with Floral Prints
There are few seasonally appropriate patterns like the floral print. This design has made a huge comeback in recent years so why not take advantage and add some blooming foliage to your spring and summer ensembles.
Floral prints are perfect for the spring and summer time. They come in a variety of color palettes, from neutral to neon, to bold, and earth tones, you name it. The nature of these patterns is easily reflected the blooming foliage you can readily see this time of year so why not use it to inspire some of your outfits? Add some life and dimension to your look by adding one of these fashion accessories or statement fashion pieces.
Accent or statement pieces can work much like accessories. Leggings, printed skinny jeans and the like can be mixed and matched in any number of ways to create various outfits. These are especially good for making your basics look more dynamic and thoughtful. Plus pairing solid tops or tees with these items adds just the right amount of balance to your outfit. You can also use clothing items like sweaters or cardigans in the way you would use an accessory. Add some depth and color to an outfit of solid colors and patterns with a floral cardigan or shrug. Use some of the colors used in the print or wear it over neutrals and basics to maximize your look.
Smaller fashion accessories are also great for flaunting your springtime florals and floral prints. Canvas bags are especially popular, whether they come in the form of a trendy backpack, hobo bag, or crossbody. If you are looking for something a little more classy then a small clutch will do the trick as well. This sort of handbag can be worn to both casual and more formal events easily. Scarves are another great option and can be added to most any outfit. Not only that but they serve a practical purpose, too! They go wonderfully under any light jacket, fitted blazer, or sweater.
You can also opt for jewelry and other statement pieces. Large bib necklaces can feature floral themes and designs, whether in metalwork or in inset fabric with lace and other materials. Large chunky bangles can feature this design as well and can be easily added to ensembles. But if you’re looking for a more subtle way to add this print to your look, you can look beyond jewelry to other small fashion accessories like skinny belts or shoes. These can help bring balance to an outfit, whether you use the design elsewhere or simply wish to tie together an ensemble of different colors and solid pieces.

Mix and Match Animal Print
Some of you may think that mixing different animal prints together is impossible. It can be quite doable if you know what you’re doing…
Mixing and matching patterns can definitely be tricky. It is very much like matching colors and uses many of the same elements in order to do so successfully and yet is also more complex. When it comes to mixing animal print there is a way to make it possible.
The first rule about wearing more than one pattern in general is to be subtle. Too much of both will definitely overpower your look so you will have to find just the right balance. One way to go is use prints that use the same color scheme, such as black and brown or black and white. This way the patterns essentially “match” and you can break up the outfit with solid colored pieces and accessories that either offset or tone down the overall look. One thing you can do for instance is say wear a black and white cheetah print top with a neutral snakeskin clutch under a solid cardigan and with a solid colored pant to add balance.
Another thing you can do is mix prints that are the same or similar but use differing color palettes so that there is still some symmetry there but is made all the more dynamic and interesting. You wouldn’t want to wear one thing right over another so it’s best to choose your pieces wisely. If you’re going with a pant and top that feature patterns, then break it up with a belt, bag, scarf or even a combination of all three. You can use a neutral color like beige or black that will always be safe but bold colors can work too that will make more of a statement without making your outfit look too busy.
While it is doable to perhaps combine two large pieces featuring a pattern together, they can be used to much better effect if used more subtly. Such as in the example above, one piece is a larger clothing and one is an accessory. This way, you can still mix and match if the look isn’t working for you and the smaller pieces works more to accent and offset the larger one. Wearing an animal print top with a different patterned shoe or bag is a good example of this use. Also, the pieces are not too close to one another so they do not clash. Adding pieces of clothing and accessories puts distance between them and balances out your entire look.
